Foucault argues that “discipline” can be used by any political organization. In our case, democracy uses discipline to “control” its citizens even though democracy is founded on the idea that the people hold power. The use of discipline is used in many forms. In our case, we pour down the discipline from top to bottom. From high political power to everyday civilians. In many authoritarian countries, governments monitor their citizens causing fear and chaos. In my opinion, our country tends to use a more emotional route among their own civilians. We tend to monitor ourselves and call out behaviors and actions we don’t like as a whole. Social media plays a huge part in our system since it is easier to voice our opinions and agree or disagree with others. We monitor people not just in current times but in our past as well. It is now easier for people to dig up dirt on politicians from years ago.
