Are you being watched?

The topic of surveillance tends to make people uncomfortable. However, the truth of the matter is we are always being watched. If we are in stores the security cameras are watching us, some families have at-home security systems, public transportation has cameras. You may have heard the expression “once it’s put on the internet it is there forever”. We also monitor each other. Whether it’s a stalker watching your every move. Or maybe you and a friend have each other’s location on. We also judge those who we may not know. We make perceptions about random people every day without evening noticing. Many neighborhoods have a neighborhood watch to keep tabs on everyone. Another form of surveillance is your private information. If you or a loved one has had COVID then you are aware that the health department calls you to give instructions on procedures to follow. Here in Virginia, there is an app that notifies you if someone around you has tested positive for COVID. Guess where they get that from? Many people argue that we are monitored too much and that there are no limits placed. However, I think that we are still at the very beginning of surveillance and it could progress to more throughout the years. I believe that there is a way of not being watched but it may be hard to live in this world completely off the grid.
